37hrs per week
THE ROLE:
To ensure that the public transport network provides a safe and welcoming environment at all times, working as a team to improve safety and security on services and at stops, stations and interchanges.
The post holder will provide a highly visible presence across the public transport network with a focus on reducing anti-social behaviour, improving the travel experience of customers, and reducing the perception of crime.
To work with local Community Safety Partnerships, Policing and ASB teams and their partners.
Assist the Transport Safety Manager and wider Public Transport Team in developing and delivering a Safer Travel Plan.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible to the Transport Safety Manager providing a visible presence on the public transport network.
- To interact and engage with public transport passengers to improve their travelling experience and reduce their perception of crime.
- To work collaboratively alongside partners and interested stakeholders to contribute towards the effective delivery of a Safer Travel Plan and the development of partnership working.
- To engage with schools, students and staff to reduce incidents of damage and anti-social behaviour on dedicated school services.
- To assist in providing appropriate support to vulnerable individuals using the public transport network, signposting these individuals to support services where necessary.
- To be a professional witness to incidents providing evidence to support any civil intervention or criminal prosecutions.
- To interact appropriately and, where necessary, proportionally use allocated powers to reduce anti-social behaviour on the public transport network.
- To be flexible, able and willing to travel across the county, sometimes at short notice, to ensure that issues and priorities are attended to in a timely manner.
- Liaise with internal and external partners and agencies; preparing and presenting reports and updates as necessary.
- Participate in team meetings when required.
- To assist in self-development by attending appropriate training courses and undertaking e-learning modules.
- To provide First Aid when required
SKILLS:
- Previous experience of working closely with the public, police and/or transport operators .
- Previous experience of conflict resolution and the ability to keep calm in challenging or volatile situation.
- Ability to communicate, in both clear written material and verbally, at all levels with the public, stakeholders and partner agencies.
- Ability to persuade and influence individuals to gain their co-operation and compliance, including using tact and professionalism to diffuse confrontational situations
- Understanding of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 and the tools available to address anti-social behaviour.
- Ability to work as part of a team, flexibly and with limited supervision
- Ability to exercise judgment, sensitivity and discretion to deal with difficult issues and individuals with complex needs
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, MS Teams & the use of email
- Knowledge of the public transport network
LICENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- SIA Licence
- The post holder will be required to pass the police vetting process to NPPV Level 2
INTERVIEW REQUIREMENTS:
- Eligibility documents needed at interview: Passport or Full Birth Certificate; Utility Bill showing current address and dated within 3 months; Proof of National Insurance (Payslips cannot be used) such as NI card, P45, P60, benefits or HMRC letter.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- You must be able to provide a checkable 5-year employment and address history for vetting purposes (this can include full-time education or periods when claiming benefits).
