The Amulets 2025 Awards – Celebrating our people

On the 1st of October, we held our annual awards evening, The Amulets, to celebrate the incredible team members and their achievements throughout the last year.

Held in the heart of London at The Steel Yard – a historic site with beautifully restored Victorian railway arches that also used to be a railway station – the perfect backdrop to recognise our people across Amulet.

Our hosts for the evening, Tracey Cheung and Kieran Mackie, captured the spirit of the event perfectly.

“Far too often, the incredible acts of dedication, professionalism, and kindness shown by our people go unnoticed – seen as “just part of the job” when in fact, they are anything but ordinary. What our employees do truly matters. Whether it’s protecting people, providing reassurance, stepping forward in challenging situations, or simply making someone’s day brighter, their actions have a lasting impact on the communities we serve. Their humility in doing so, without seeking recognition, continues to inspire us.” – Kieran Mackie, Managing Director

“Tonight isn’t just about handing out trophies – it’s about the stories behind them. Stories of commitment, hard work, and people going that little bit further to make a difference.” – Tracey Cheung, Learning and Development Director

This year’s Amulets introduced new award categories to recognise even more of our exceptional team members and the diverse ways they contribute to our success. From long-standing commitment and innovative thinking to acts of compassion and leadership, each winner represents the very best of Amulet.

Everyday Excellence – Ian Carslaw (Scottish Power)

Ian has been a dedicated and reliable presence on his contracted site for over twenty years. From taking it upon himself to create a comprehensive CCTV camera location plan to extending his days to ensure smooth operations and handovers to other contractors. His continued commitment to excellence every day and consistently going above and beyond in his role without seeking any reward or recognition make Ian an asset not just to his main site but across the entire contract.

Always Seeking Better – Fay Dickson (Scottish Power)

This award recognises individuals or teams that have driven change within their workplace through successful implementation of their idea into a new process or product that has had a positive effect. Fay progressed an initiative entirely off her own back, implementing a neighbourhood watch-style intelligence sharing initiative in a major city centre, providing real-time, streamlined communication. This has already enabled faster and more effective responses to unfolding events such as during protest activity in the city. The initiative is now a well-established network, encompassing high-profile businesses, key stakeholders and even the Police themselves.

Team of the Year – The Glades Bromley

“The visible presence and effective actions of the security team have not only helped reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour but have also contributed to a more positive atmosphere within The Glades.” Rob Lowe, Business Improvement District for Bromley Town Centre.

One example highlighted was when the team assisted a customer who became unwell whilst driving and parked in the carpark. The security team assisted her, displaying outstanding professionalism and care, contacting and directing the ambulance and remaining calm to reassure the customer.

The Led by Intelligence Award – Gary Giles (University of York)

Gary went above and beyond to review CCTV footage from an incident. Gary used this security experience to meticulously track events back to locate key footage, help identify the perpetrators and proactively carry out an investigation that led to being able to pass crucial information to the police. Gary’s attention to detail, and his unwavering commitment to safeguarding has been praised by both our client and the Head of Security.

Putting People First – Khalid Clair and Liam Murphy (The Glades Bromley)

Earlier this year, Khalid and Liam assisted and protected a young male who was struggling with suicidal thoughts and intent to take his own life on multiple occasions at The Glades Bromley. Their calm demeanour, empathetic approach, quick thinking and compassion were invaluable in protecting this vulnerable individual before any harm could be done. This highlights Khalid and Liam’s continued effort to always put people first and going to extra mile to support and protect those who need it.

The Amulet EDI Champion – Margaret Rouse (North East)

This new award recognises Margaret’s outstanding dedication to equality, diversity and inclusion not only over the last year but for the last 15 years at Amulet. She has supported people back into employment through training, nurturing and mentoring, building their confidence and self-belief. Margaret’s work with organisations across the Northeast has resulted in over forty new recruits – demonstrating her passion to help disadvantaged people into sustainable employment.

The Heart of Amulet – Daniel Smith (Northern Trains)

This award recognises Daniel’s commitment and contribution to his community. He has invested time and created partnerships and opportunities to support others in the community and increase security. He goes above and beyond his day-to-day responsibilities to help others. Read more about our Travel Safe Officers at Northern Trains and how they safeguard and support the community.

The Amulet Customer Recognition Award – Knight Frank

This award celebrates customers who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to improving the quality and delivery of their security services. This year, the award was proudly presented to Knight Frank, who have contributed greatly to an improvement of the standards and perception of the Security industry.

The Amulet Frontline Leadership award – Richie Ikazoboh (ZSL London)

Richie has demonstrated and inspired exemplary teamwork, taking learnings from our “Own Your Future” program and implementing them at work, offering outstanding support to the operations team. Richie has stepped out of the role of Supervisor and provided operational leadership at a large-scale event, sharing knowledge and experience with the team to deliver the best service to all visitors.

The Managers Choice Award – Gordon Bell (Operations Manager, Midlands)

This new award has been voted throughout the year by the management team to recognise the outstanding work of a colleague whose performance has exceeded expectations and is worthy of recognition. Gordon is recognised for being an essential pillar of the operational team and the business as a whole, often going unnoticed. From being the first to be called to help with technical issues (particularly supporting with Logosoft), to his consistent support, efficiency, and dedication to the team.

The Managing Director’s Award – Barnaby Vallance

Recognising the most outstanding performances by Amulet employees, this award is decided upon by Amulet’s Managing Director, Kieran Mackie. In Kieran’s speech awarding Barnaby with this award, he said Barney has “grown hugely as a leader, taken on more and more responsibility, and even picked up things that aren’t his to worry about – but has owned them anyway,” adding he “has built a reputation across the business as someone who’s respected by everyone – but more than that, they’re genuinely loved by the people who work with them and for them.”

Most Outstanding Act Award – Jeff Tinkner and Martin Pritchett

When a member of the public was attacked by an XL Bully dog and suffered severe injuries to their hand, Jeff and Martin acted without hesitation. They worked together to help free the man from the dog’s grip and, when faced with long ambulance wait times, made the quick decision to take him to hospital themselves. Their calmness under pressure, teamwork, and instinct to protect others exemplify the very best of Amulet’s values.

This year’s Most Outstanding Act Award has been coordinated by Geoff Brown, Chairman of the Association of University Chief Security Officers (AUCSO), who selected a panel of judges to cast their votes for our four finalists.

Giving back

This year’s event also supported LandAid, with funds raised from the evening’s prize draw helping to end youth homelessness. It was a powerful reminder that while The Amulets celebrate our people, they also reflect our shared commitment to creating safer, stronger communities.

A special thank you to The Arch Company for hosting us at such a unique and memorable venue.

Looking ahead

A huge congratulations to all our winners and finalists. Every nomination reflects the passion, dedication, and care that make a real difference every single day.

The Amulets aren’t just about recognition – they’re about connection, purpose, and pride. They remind us that behind every uniform, there’s a person making an impact. And it’s those people who make Amulet truly extraordinary.
