This year’s Railway 200 campaign marks 200 years since the first public railway journey in the UK. As a business deeply embedded in the rail industry, we’re proud to celebrate this legacy not just by looking back, but by investing in the future – starting with young passengers.
We’re delighted to sponsor the Railway 200 Rail Safety Pack, which will be on board the official Inspiration Train. This special train is touring the country as part of the Railway 200 celebrations, bringing together schools, communities and railway partners to share stories from the past and hopes for the future of rail.
Designed for Key Stage 2 pupils (ages 9 – 11), the safety pack includes interactive activities and guidance that help children learn how to travel safely and responsibly on the railway. Created in the style of the award-winning Rail Safety Badge for UK Scouting, the resource also features a special lesson plan developed by Open University lecturer Stuart Wroe.
This initiative is more than just a classroom tool. It supports a key rail industry priority: building public confidence and reducing safety incidents by engaging early. Children living near the railway or regularly travelling by train are often unaware of the risks involved. By raising awareness at an early age, we’re helping prevent trespass, reduce anti-social behaviour, and promote safer communities.
Chris Leech MBE, associate principal consultant: youth route crime & social value impact at Tracsis, said: “On average, there are 19,000 trespass incidents on UK railways each year. As well as the devastating human costs, trespassing causes 750,000 minutes of train delay for passengers and £75 million in direct costs to the taxpayer. With hi-tech stealth-like trains travelling at colossal speeds, there has never been a more important time to educate young people on the consequences of trespass and anti-social behaviour on the railway, and I’m delighted to have collaborated with Amulet to create a fun and informative Rail Safety Pack to accompany the Railway 200 Inspiration train as it travels across the UK. The pack will actively encourage peer-to-peer education on how to travel on our amazing network confidently and safely.”
Supporting the rail sector through safety and social value
We’ve built a strong reputation as a trusted partner in the rail industry. Our teams provide highly visible and specialist security services across transport hubs, rolling stock operations, depots, and key national infrastructure sites.
We are proud members of the Rail Forum and active partners in the Rail Safe Friendly programme, which brings safety education to schools nationwide. Sponsoring the Railway 200 Safety Pack builds on this existing commitment by taking our operational knowledge and using it to deliver real social impact at the community level.
A long-term commitment to safer journeys
This sponsorship is just one example of how we’re delivering social value across the transport sector. From outreach in schools to employment and upskilling opportunities, we embed community benefit into our everyday operations – because we believe our work is about more than guarding assets; it’s about building trust, enabling confidence, and supporting the sector’s long-term success.
As we look forward to the next 200 years of railway travel, we’re proud to stand alongside our partners and communities to make rail safer, smarter and more socially responsible – for everyone.
