On Thursday 5th June, we hosted our inaugural Amulet Cup at Power League in Manchester. The five-a-side football tournament brought together our industry colleagues and partners from across the transport sector to raise vital funds for the mental health charity, the Samaritans.
We were delighted to raise over £1,750! A huge thanks to the teams who came together to brave the rain and battle it out for our Amulet Cup.
The tournament
We had a fantastic response this year across our network, with 17 teams and more than 80 individuals participating. Entry fees of £10 per person / £50 per team were donated directly to Samaritans via our dedicated JustGiving page.
We had our own Amulet team, who faced teams from:
- Avanti West Coast Safeguarding Officers
- Northern Trains – multiple entries, including teams from Blackburn, Blackpool, Leeds and Manchester Piccadilly
- Northern Trains Travel Safe Officers
- Greater Manchester Police
- British Transport Police
- Transport for Greater Manchester TravelSafe Support and Enforcement Officers
- Taurus Group
Despite overcast skies and some drizzle, the teams rallied and displayed their impressive football skills, from Cruyff turns to acrobatic saves. After an action-packed day, we crowned our winner and celebrated everyone’s contribution to raising an incredible amount for such an important cause.
A huge congratulations to the Northern Trains Manchester Piccadilly team for winning the tournament! They flexed their impressive skills throughout the tournament to earn the top spot against strong competition.

The importance of mental health
The £1,750 raised supports the essential work carried out by the Samaritans, who provide 24/7 support for anyone who is struggling to cope.
No one should suffer in silence, whether at home or at work. Many of us have faced challenges with our mental health, making it vital to support our community and create spaces for colleagues to connect.
Coming together
A kickabout wasn’t the only highlight of the day. Our colleagues had the opportunity to network across the transport and security sectors while enjoying food and light refreshments.
The fundraising success extended beyond the football competition too! We also held a charity raffle, with all additional proceeds going directly to support the Samaritans.
Our first tournament was a huge success, bringing together professional networking, wellbeing initiatives, and colleagues from our communities across the UK. We’re counting down the days until next year!
